God's Words Matter

Torah Publications

When it comes to God's Name, Word and Sabbath everyone has questions and we are inundated with man's opinion of what they all mean or even what they are. Even the greatest of scholars question and debate these subjects. The obvious question of course is WHY so much debate? God gave us His Name, His Word and His Sabbath. He did not hide any of them. They are clearly written in the Torah, the First Five Books of the Old Testament that He commanded Moses to record. These Ancient Hebrew Scriptures are our only recorded documentation. Man decided to break His Word into five different books  and give them chapter numbers and verse numbers (that was not God's idea).

There are hundreds of different versions of the Torah (Old Testament) on the market created by man as their opinion of what God meant. Well, we all know that God only had ONE meaning so one must assume that the translations from the original Hebrew manuscripts by those who knew the Hebrew language were likely to be more accurate than someone who translated into Greek, Latin or even English. So the closer you can get to the original writings the better off you are and truer the translation will be.

Some rely on the King James Version, others say the JPS, Subtuagint, Dead Sea Scrolls, etc. In general, most will be quite similar depending on their purpose. They will rage from literal translation that’s word-for-word, meaning to meaning that is more modern day equivalent, concept translation that’s more thought-for-thought, to paraphrase, a retelling of the story.

However, the main difference is not so much in the actual written words but more in the individual interpretations of what God meant when He said it. Man's opinions seem to differ greatly in this area. It seems that even though God said red, man insists that He meant green and or orange.
